#thebankjob and #millionpounddrop. Two programmes that are only watchable with the ability to fast forward through the slow, boring parts
— Matt Fazakerley (@mfaz) January 2, 2012
On Monday a new show started on Channel 4 called the Bank Job. A few weeks ago Channel 4 launched an online version of the game (The Bank Job online) to get people for the show. I got quite addicted to it, answering questions, winning 'money' and trying to beat my opponents for a good hour, so I thought I would watch it on TV. Unfortunately it was very much in the same category as The Million Pound Drop. I liked it but it was very slow with 2 minute rounds taking nearer 20 minutes. This is definitely a programme I will only be able to bare if I record it and fast forward through the pointless chat and attempts to build up tension.
On Tuesday I tweeted about downloading Kik (a smart phone messenger app) and on Wednesday I gave a review of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol after going to see it at the cinema. I have written separate posts about them here and here.
Good decision. "@ForgePress: There will be no change to Bar One's alcohol licence, following a council review this morning."

On Thursday Sheffield City Council made the decision to make no changes to my student union bar's alcohol license. This is following an incident that happened just before Christmas when a girl got hit by a bus. I hope she makes a quick recovery and the bus driver is OK. This was all over the internet when it happened but in my opinion Bar One was not to blame. From knowing people who work there and visiting Bar One myself many times I feel they do a good job of ensuring all the students are safe as much as possible.
Quite pleased with my first ever attempt at feta cheese with 'red onion and mushroom jam' parcels #ComeDineWithUs twitter.com/mfaz/status/15…

On Thursday evening me, my brother and my friend had a Come Dine With Me style meal. I cooked the starter (feta cheese with 'red onion and mushroom jam' parcels), my brother cooked the main course (sweet chilli steak chunks with sweet potato wedges & balsamic vinegar asparagus), my friend cooked the dessert (Lemon Meringue Pie) and we had cocktails and cheese and biscuits to finish. Makes a change from our usual Dominos Pizza and a DVD! I was particulary pleased with my creation as I had come up with the idea a couple of hours earlier and was using my 'don't believe in following a recipe ' mentality. It was a really fun evening and as we didn't score the courses, we were all winners!
Finally getting round to watching it. bit.ly/AgEBFj @GetGlue #MichaelClayton

On Friday night I watched Michael Clayton. I've been meaning to watch this DVD for a while now and I'm glad I made the effort. It was really good and made a refreshing change to the action packed films I have watched recently.
Reading the rerelease 'Sirens'. Can't put this brilliant book down. bit.ly/zHAA4w @GetGlue #BloodSweatAndTea

All week I have been reading Sirens, a book I got off my brother for Christmas (Thanks Luke). It is based on a blog by an ambulance worker (worth a read) that tells the story of what it is really like to work on the front line of the emergency services. It is very interesting and entertaining, so much so that I am already at page 242! It was adapted into a TV series last year and I would recommend buying the book if you enjoyed it. Unfortunately a second series wasn't commissioned.
Sirens is actually one of the reasons I have started this blog, along with the inspiration of John Watson off of the brilliant BBC1 series Sherlock.
Bet £5 on roulette, come away with £10. That will do me!
— Matt Fazakerley (@mfaz) January 7, 2012
Last night I went on a really random and spontaneous night out in Liverpool with a friend from Sixth Form. It was a really good night that started with a profitable trip to the casino. OK, it was only a £5 win, but that's better than a loss! The night ended with my first experience of the night bus back home (it cost £4 and was very uneventful) and a trip to a closed McDonalds. Very disappointing when you're hungry at 3.30 am.
Yea will be fine. This is how mine accidentally met its death last year. I'm still gutted :( twitter.com/mfaz/status/15…

This was in response to a tweet from @Mattjamesrafc asking how long you can go without watering a cactus as he accidentally left his at uni. I told him that it would be fine and that I watered mine about 4 times over the 3 years I had it. It only died when I accidently knocked it off the shelf! And for further information mine said to only water it during it's growing season March to October so it might not even needed watering just yet (but as I'm no expert, don't blame me Matt if you return to Sheffield to find a dead cactus!).
So there is the first summary of my week and posted while it is still Sunday (just). Success! Hopefully I'll keep up writing a blog post every Sunday evening, but it will definitely depend on how busy my 'Twitter Week' has been. And even if I am the only person who reads these I feel it is still be worth it as I can look back at the year I've had at the start of 2013.
